Nano Brows Aftercare: How to Heal and Protect Your Permanent Makeup

The first 7 to 14 days after nano brows are critical for how your permanent makeup heals, how long the pigment lasts, and how natural the final result looks.

How to Care for Nano Brows After Your Appointment

The first 7 to 14 days after nano brows are critical for how your permanent makeup heals, how long the pigment lasts, and how natural the final result looks. Proper aftercare helps the pigment settle evenly, prevents infection, and gives you the soft, hair-like strokes nano brows are known for.

Thinking about nano brows? Book nano brows at KRIDO or call or text 727-513-3925.

At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, Amber, our permanent makeup specialist, explains aftercare in detail at your appointment. This page walks through what to expect during healing and how to protect your investment.

What Happens During the Healing Process

Your skin treats nano brow pigment like a wound, because that is what it is. A fine needle has deposited color into the upper layers of your skin.

The treated area may appear slightly darker or more intense in the first few days, which is completely normal. As your skin heals over 7 to 14 days, the color will soften and settle into its true shade. You will see some flaking and scabbing. This is your skin regenerating.

The color you see immediately after your appointment is not the final color. It will lighten as the top layer of skin sheds.

Aftercare Rules: What to Do and What to Avoid

Avoid picking, sweating heavily, or getting the area wet during the healing period. These are the three main reasons pigment does not retain well.

Do not touch your brows. Your hands carry bacteria. Picking or scratching can pull out pigment and create uneven healing.

Keep the area dry. No swimming, saunas, steam rooms or long showers where water runs over your face. Pat your face dry if it gets wet. Water softens scabs and can lift pigment before it sets.

Avoid sweating. No intense exercise for at least 7 days. Sweat can irritate the healing skin.

Stay out of the sun. UV exposure fades pigment faster. Wear a hat if you are outside. Do not apply sunscreen directly to the brows during healing.

Skip makeup on the brows. Makeup introduces bacteria and can block the skin from breathing. Once fully healed, you can use makeup as normal.

Sleep on your back. This keeps your face off the pillow and prevents rubbing.

What About Moisturizer or Ointment?

Amber will give you specific instructions based on your skin type and the technique she used. Some artists recommend a thin layer of aftercare balm, others prefer dry healing. Follow what your artist tells you.

If you are told to apply ointment, use a clean cotton swab each time. Never double-dip. Apply a very thin layer, just enough to prevent tightness. Too much ointment can interfere with proper healing.

What the Touch-Up Appointment Is For

Most clients need one main session and one touch-up, usually scheduled 5 to 6 weeks after the initial appointment. The touch-up allows us to perfect the shape, fill in any areas where pigment did not fully retain, and make sure you are completely happy with the result.

Skin heals differently for everyone. Some areas may not hold pigment as well on the first pass, especially if your skin is oily or has larger pores. The touch-up corrects this.

Amber confirms your session plan and quote at the consultation. In some cases a neutralization is needed first, so one or more extra touch-up sessions may be required.

How Long Do Nano Brows Last?

Results typically last 1 to 3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Oily skin fades faster. Sun exposure, exfoliating products, and certain skincare ingredients (like retinol and acids) also speed fading.

Annual refreshers are recommended to maintain vibrancy over time. Think of it like maintaining color-treated hair.

I had a consultation at Krido Wellness and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Kristina, the owner, sat down with me beforehand to really talk through what I was looking for. She was so kind, thoughtful, and clearly knows her craft. I felt completely comfortable and confident walking out of there. I’m already booked to come back at the end of the month for permanent makeup and couldn’t be more excited. Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone who genuinely listens and cares about getting it right.

What If Something Does Not Look Right?

If you notice signs of infection (increasing redness, heat, pus, or pain that gets worse after day three), contact a doctor. Infection is rare with proper aftercare, but it requires medical attention.

If the color looks too dark, too light, or uneven after healing, that is normal variation. The touch-up appointment is where we fix it. Do not judge your brows until after the touch-up.

Amber, our permanent makeup specialist, assesses your natural brows, skin and face shape, maps your ideal brow shape and chooses the technique with you: Powder / Ombré, Combo or Nano Brows. Final quote, including your touch-up plan, at the consultation.

Nano brows create the most natural, hair-like strokes. They suit clients who want a soft, realistic look rather than a filled-in or powdered finish. Amber will recommend the best technique for your skin type and goals.

Clients must be 18 years or older. We recommend avoiding alcohol, blood thinners (like aspirin or fish oil), and excessive sun exposure for at least 48 hours before your appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wash my face after getting nano brows?

Yes, but avoid getting the brow area wet for the first 7 to 14 days. Use a damp cloth to clean around your brows, not over them. Pat dry gently.

When can I wear makeup on my brows again?

Wait until the brows are fully healed, usually 10 to 14 days. Makeup can introduce bacteria and interfere with healing. Once healed, you can use makeup as normal.

Why do my nano brows look so dark at first?

The color appears darker immediately after your appointment because the pigment sits on top of the skin. As your skin heals and the top layer sheds, the color will soften and settle into its true shade.

What happens if I sweat or get my brows wet by accident?

Pat the area dry immediately with a clean tissue. One instance will not ruin your results, but repeated exposure to water or sweat can cause uneven healing and pigment loss.

How long before I can go back to the gym?

Avoid intense exercise for at least 7 days. Light walking is fine, but no workouts that make you sweat. Sweat can push pigment out and irritate the healing skin.
