Dermaplaning Steps: What to Expect at Your Appointment

Dermaplaning removes dead skin cells and fine vellus hair in a simple, gentle treatment. Here’s what happens at every step.

What Happens During a Dermaplaning Facial

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliating treatment that removes dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the surface of your skin. The result is instantly smoother texture, brighter tone, and better product absorption. A dermaplaning facial at KRIDO includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage.

The process is simple, safe, and involves no downtime. Here’s what happens at each step.

Step 1: Consultation and Skin Assessment

Your first visit starts with a consultation. You meet with one of our estheticians, Amber or Jennifer, who looks at your skin, asks about your goals, and confirms dermaplaning is a good fit.

Dermaplaning works for most skin types. It is not recommended if you have active acne, open wounds, or certain skin conditions. Your esthetician reviews your health history and answers any questions. The consultation is part of your appointment, and you pay for the facial.

Step 2: Cleansing and Prep

Once your skin is assessed, your esthetician cleanses your face to remove makeup, oil, and surface debris. Clean skin helps the blade glide smoothly and safely.

You lie back comfortably while your skin is prepped. This step takes just a few minutes.

Step 3: Dermaplaning (Exfoliation)

The dermaplaning itself uses a sterile surgical blade held at a precise angle. Your esthetician moves the blade gently across your skin in short, controlled strokes. The blade removes the top layer of dead skin cells and fine hair.

The process is painless. Most people describe it as a light scraping or brushing sensation. It does not hurt, and there is no need for numbing. Your esthetician works methodically over your forehead, cheeks, chin, and jawline, avoiding the delicate eye area.

Does the Hair Grow Back Thicker or Darker?

No. This is a common concern, and the answer is clear: shaving or dermaplaning does not change the hair follicle. The hair that grows back will be the same texture, color, and thickness as before. What people sometimes notice is the blunt tip of the hair as it regrows, which can feel slightly different than the natural tapered end, but the hair itself is unchanged.

Research consistently shows that removing hair at the surface does not alter its biology.

Step 4: Circadia Mask and Serums

After exfoliation, your skin is especially receptive to treatment products. Your esthetician applies a customized Circadia mask chosen for your skin type and goals.

Circadia is a professional-grade skincare line that works with your skin’s natural circadian rhythm. During the day, your skin focuses on protection. At night, it shifts to repair and renewal. Circadia formulas are designed to support these cycles.

The mask sits on your skin for several minutes while you relax. Then your esthetician applies a firming eye serum, peptide moisturizer, and sun protection.

Step 5: Red Light Therapy

Every dermaplaning facial at KRIDO includes red light therapy. You lie under the red light panel for several minutes while the wavelengths reach the deeper layers of your skin.

Small studies suggest red and near-infrared light may support collagen production and improve fine lines and skin texture. The evidence is promising but limited, so we describe it as research-supported rather than guaranteed. Many clients find it deeply relaxing.

Step 6: Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The final step is a gentle lymphatic drainage massage. Your esthetician uses light, rhythmic movements to encourage fluid movement and reduce puffiness.

Lymphatic drainage is proven for medical use in lymphedema. For cosmetic use, it can temporarily reduce puffiness and leave your face feeling lighter and more contoured.

This step is included in every facial.

What You See Right After

Many clients notice smoother skin right away, with a brighter, more even tone and a soft, polished texture. Makeup glides on more evenly, and skincare products absorb better.

There is no downtime, and most clients have little or no redness. You can return to your regular routine right away, including makeup if you choose.

How to Care for Your Skin After Dermaplaning

Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun for a few days after dermaplaning, so wear sunscreen daily. Avoid harsh exfoliants, retinoids, and active ingredients like glycolic acid for at least a few days to give your skin time to settle.

Keep your routine gentle. Hydrate, protect, and let your fresh skin heal naturally.

How Often to Repeat Dermaplaning

We generally recommend a facial every four to six weeks, which aligns with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Your esthetician will recommend a schedule based on your skin type and goals.

Dermaplaning can be part of a regular facial routine or done as a standalone treatment when you want an instant glow before an event.

What Clients Say

I had the absolute best experience at Krido Wellness!! I went in for a dermaplane and from the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. I sat down with the owner, Kristina and she took the time to discuss my current skincare routine, what I’m struggling with and my goals. You could tell she really has such a passion for what she does and after learning more about her story, it was clear that her mission is to help people look and feel their best. The spa itself is very clean, professional, and has a calming atmosphere so you can truly relax. My aesthetician Amber was incredible!! She is so knowledgable and friendly and was so thorough with my treatment. She wasn’t pushing products on me, she just really wanted me to have the best possible experience. I literally couldn’t believe my skin afterward - had to do a double take in the mirror lol it was GLOWING, rejuvenated and felt amazing.
