Dermaplane Before or After a Shower? Before, on Dry Skin

The best approach is to dermaplane on clean, dry skin before a shower. This lets you remove dead cells and peach fuzz on a prepared surface, then rinse away everything afterward.

Should You Dermaplane Before or After a Shower?

The best approach is to dermaplane on clean, dry skin before a shower. This lets you remove dead cells and peach fuzz on a prepared surface, then rinse away everything afterward. Your skin needs to be completely clean and dry for the blade to glide smoothly and safely.

Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliating treatment that removes dead skin cells and fine vellus hair from the surface of your face. It leaves your skin instantly smoother, brighter and more refined. The treatment does not change the hair follicle, so the peach fuzz does not grow back thicker or darker.

Why Dermaplaning Works Best Before a Shower

Dermaplaning requires a clean, dry surface. If you start with freshly washed skin, the blade moves evenly and the treatment is more comfortable. After dermaplaning, your skin will have tiny flakes of dead skin and hair on the surface. A shower afterward rinses everything away and leaves your face fresh.

If you dermaplane after a shower, your skin may still be damp or have residue from cleanser or steam. This can interfere with the blade’s movement and make the treatment less effective. Dry skin is safer and gives better results.

At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, every dermaplaning facial starts with a deep cleanse to prepare your skin. The treatment removes the outermost layer of dead cells and fine hair, uses Circadia professional skincare, and finishes with red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage.

What Happens During a Dermaplaning Facial at KRIDO

Your esthetician cleanses your skin and assesses your tone, texture and goals. The dermaplaning step uses a sterile surgical blade held at a precise angle to gently exfoliate the surface. You will feel a light scraping sensation, but the treatment is not painful.

After dermaplaning, your skin is more receptive to treatment products. Your esthetician then uses Circadia products chosen for your skin. Then comes red light therapy, which research suggests may support collagen, and lymphatic drainage massage, which can temporarily reduce puffiness.

There is no downtime. Many clients notice smoother, brighter skin right away, and makeup applies more evenly.

How Many Sessions You Need

Dermaplaning delivers instant smoothness, but the skin naturally renews itself over time. We generally recommend a facial every four to six weeks to maintain results. If you are working on texture, tone or dullness, your esthetician may recommend starting with sessions every two weeks.

Every KRIDO facial includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Research suggests red light may support collagen, and lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce puffiness.

I had the absolute best experience at Krido Wellness!! I went in for a dermaplane and from the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. I sat down with the owner, Kristina and she took the time to discuss my current skincare routine, what I’m struggling with and my goals. You could tell she really has such a passion for what she does and after learning more about her story, it was clear that her mission is to help people look and feel their best. The spa itself is very clean, professional, and has a calming atmosphere so you can truly relax. My aesthetician Amber was incredible!! She is so knowledgable and friendly and was so thorough with my treatment. She wasn’t pushing products on me, she just really wanted me to have the best possible experience. I literally couldn’t believe my skin afterward - had to do a double take in the mirror lol it was GLOWING, rejuvenated and felt amazing.

Should You Exfoliate Before Dermaplaning?

No. Dermaplaning is itself an exfoliating treatment. If you exfoliate beforehand, you risk irritating your skin. Your esthetician will cleanse your face thoroughly before the treatment, which is all the preparation your skin needs.

After dermaplaning, avoid harsh exfoliants, retinol and direct sun exposure for a few days. Use gentle, hydrating products and sunscreen.

Dermaplaning at Home vs. a Professional Facial

At-home dermaplaning tools are available, but a professional treatment at KRIDO offers precision, safety and professional-grade skincare. Each of our estheticians has 30 years of esthetics experience. They work exclusively with Circadia, a professional-grade skincare line designed to support the skin’s natural circadian rhythm.

The KRIDO Dermaplaning Facial is $150 and includes dermaplaning with Circadia professional skincare, red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Many clients leave with smoother texture and a brighter tone.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to dermaplane before or after washing your face?

Dermaplane after washing your face. Your skin needs to be clean and completely dry for the blade to move smoothly and safely. The treatment removes dead cells and fine hair, which you can then rinse away in the shower.

Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?

No. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair from the surface. It does not change the hair follicle, so the hair grows back at the same thickness and color. This is well established in research on shaving and hair growth.

How long do dermaplaning results last?

The immediate smoothness lasts until your skin naturally renews, which takes about four to six weeks. We generally recommend a facial every four to six weeks to maintain results. Your esthetician will recommend the best schedule for your skin.

Can I wear makeup after dermaplaning?

Yes, but it is best to wait a few hours. Your skin is freshly exfoliated and more sensitive right after treatment. Many clients find their makeup applies more evenly and looks better after dermaplaning because the surface is so smooth.
