Neck Fat: Why It Happens and What You Can Do About It
Neck fat is stubborn, common, and hard to target with diet or exercise alone. Here’s what causes it, what you can do, and where non-invasive Cryo Face Sculpting fits in.
Why Neck Fat Is So Stubborn
Neck fat builds up under the chin and along the jawline for a few reasons. Genetics play a role: some people store fat there more easily. Weight gain adds to it, but even people at a healthy weight can carry stubborn fat in this area. Age matters too. As skin loses elasticity and collagen, the neck can start to look fuller or less defined, even if the fat itself hasn’t changed much.
Posture is another factor. Hours spent looking down at phones and screens (often called tech neck) may make the area look less defined, which can make neck fat more visible.
Research mostly shows that exercise cannot burn fat from one chosen spot. Fat loss happens across the whole body. Neck and jaw exercises can strengthen the muscles underneath, but they will not target the fat layer above them.
What Your Options Are
You have a few paths if you want to reduce neck fat or tighten the area.
Weight loss can help if you carry extra weight overall. As your body fat drops, your face and neck often slim too. But research mostly shows spot reduction does not work, so exercise alone is unlikely to slim your neck.
Kybella is an injectable prescription treatment approved by the FDA for fat under the chin. A medical provider injects deoxycholic acid, which breaks down fat cells in the treated area. It takes multiple sessions and comes with swelling and downtime. Talk to a medical provider if you are considering it.
Liposuction is surgery. A surgeon removes fat permanently from under the chin and neck. It requires anesthesia, incisions, and recovery time. Results are immediate, but it is invasive.
Cryo Face Sculpting is a non-invasive option. It combines controlled cooling, red light therapy, and lymphatic drainage, and many clients notice less puffiness, firmer-looking skin, and more refined contours. It does not remove fat. No needles, no downtime. Results vary and build over a series of sessions.

How KRIDO Approaches Neck Fat with Cryo Face Sculpting
Cryo Face Sculpting (what many people search for as a cryo facial) treats the face, neck and décolleté in one session. The gentle cold causes a temporary tightening and depuffing effect, and many clients notice tighter, more sculpted-looking skin.
Every session follows a three-step sequence. First, the CryoSkin wand delivers alternating warmth and cold to the treatment area. Most clients find it comfortable and relaxing. Next, you spend time under red light therapy panels. Research suggests red light may support collagen and improve skin texture. Finally, your esthetician finishes with manual lymphatic drainage massage, which can temporarily reduce puffiness.
The session takes about an hour. You walk out the same day with no downtime.
Many clients notice a lifted, more defined look after their first visit. Longer-lasting results show up over a series of sessions. The number depends on your starting point and your goals, and your esthetician will map that out with you at your consultation.
What to Expect at Your Visit
You start with a consultation. Your esthetician (either Amber or Jennifer, each with 30 years of esthetics experience) assesses your skin, talks through what you want, and answers your questions. You pay for the session, which starts right after.
You will lie back and relax while the treatment is applied to your face, neck and décolleté. The cooling feels gentle, almost like a spa mist. After the cold phase, you move under the red light panels. Your esthetician finishes with a short lymphatic drainage massage. Then you are done.
No peeling and no downtime. You can go straight back to your day.
Sessions are priced from $245. Many clients see their best results over a course of treatments. Ask about packages at your consultation.
I’ve tried everything over the years to deal with facial puffiness and inflammation: gua sha, ice rollers, ice water, expensive serums. Some of it helped for a minute, but nothing lasted until I did the 5-pack of Cryo Face Sculpting at Krido Wellness. It’s genuinely the first thing that’s made a real difference. My face looks less puffy and more sculpted, and my confidence has followed right along with it.

My experience at KRIDO has been nothing short of outstanding. The location is absolutely beautiful, the atmosphere is fresh & modern and the team is welcoming. I have had a couple facials now including the cryo facial - talk about a Glow-Up!! My aesthetician was Amber, who is not only a big facial and cosmetic nerd, but also very down to earth and no BS. I enjoy knowing the science behind the craft and she was fantastic.

Can Exercise or Diet Alone Get Rid of Neck Fat?
Exercise strengthens and tones the muscles under the skin. That is real and helpful. But research mostly shows fat loss happens across your whole body, not in one chosen spot. A few small studies suggest a small local effect, but the evidence is thin.
If you carry extra weight, losing it through diet and movement will slim your face and neck over time. If you are already at a healthy weight and still have stubborn neck fat, exercise and diet alone are unlikely to change it.
That is where non-invasive face sculpting may help with how the area looks. It does not remove fat, but many clients notice a firmer, more defined look.

Neck Fat and Loose Skin After Weight Loss
Rapid weight loss, including on GLP-1 medications (semaglutide and others), can reduce fat volume quickly. When that happens, the skin does not always bounce back right away. You may notice loose or sagging skin under the chin and along the neck, even after the fat is gone.
The medication itself does not damage skin. The change comes from fast volume loss. Cryo Face Sculpting may help the look of loose skin, and many clients notice a firmer look over a series of sessions. Results vary.
For concerns about medications or medical conditions, your esthetician will review your health history at the consultation.
