CoolSculpting vs Emsculpt: Compare Fat Reduction & Body Contouring Options

CoolSculpting reduces fat through sustained freezing, while Emsculpt builds muscle with electromagnetic pulses. Both are FDA-cleared. Here is what each does, who they suit, and how KRIDO’s approach compares.

CoolSculpting vs Emsculpt: What Each Treatment Does

CoolSculpting and Emsculpt target different goals. CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared to reduce fat in treated areas using controlled cooling (cryolipolysis). Emsculpt is FDA-cleared to strengthen and tone muscle using high-intensity electromagnetic energy that forces muscle contractions.

Neither is surgery, but the technology, session length, cost and results are different.

How CoolSculpting Works

CoolSculpting uses suction and sustained cold (around 35 to 60 minutes per area) to freeze fat cells. The cold damages fat cells, which the body clears over weeks to months. Research shows a measurable reduction in fat layer thickness in the treated area.

You will feel pulling, intense cold, then numbness. Afterward, the area may feel tender, swollen or numb for days to weeks. Results appear gradually over 2 to 4 months. Most people need one to two treatments per area. Cost varies by area and provider.

CoolSculpting does not tighten skin or address cellulite. If you have loose skin, you may see that more after fat is reduced.

How Emsculpt Works

Emsculpt uses electromagnetic energy to trigger rapid, forced muscle contractions (like doing thousands of crunches or squats in 30 minutes). This builds muscle and, as a secondary effect, may reduce some fat in the treated area.

You lie down while paddles deliver the pulses. It feels like an intense workout. Muscles may feel sore for a day or two. The standard course is four sessions over two weeks. Results appear in 2 to 4 weeks. Cost varies by provider.

Emsculpt builds and strengthens muscle. It is not primarily a fat reduction treatment, though some studies show modest fat loss. It does not tighten loose skin.

Who Each Treatment Suits

CoolSculpting suits people with stubborn fat in specific areas (abdomen, flanks, thighs, under the chin) who are near their goal weight and have good skin elasticity. It does not work for loose skin or overall weight loss.

Emsculpt suits people who want to build muscle definition and strengthen the core or glutes. It is not for people who need significant fat reduction. It works best on fit individuals looking to enhance muscle tone.

Both require maintenance. Your body can still gain fat or lose muscle depending on your lifestyle.

How KRIDO’s Cryo Body Sculpting Compares

KRIDO offers Cryo Body Sculpting, a non-invasive body contouring treatment that uses controlled cooling, red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage in every session. It is designed to reduce stubborn fat and tighten skin in targeted areas.

Cryo Body Sculpting is not CoolSculpting, and it is not the same technology. The device KRIDO uses (CryoSkin) alternates warmth and cold in short phases, without suction. Research for this specific device is limited, so results vary. Most clients see their best results over 5 to 10 sessions.

On average, clients lose 0.5 to 1 inch in the first session. Results vary. Progress is tracked with measurements at every visit. Each session takes about an hour, and there is no downtime. You can return to your day right after.

The session includes three steps. First, controlled cooling is applied to the treated area. Then comes red light therapy, which research suggests may support collagen and skin quality. Finally comes lymphatic drainage massage, which can temporarily reduce puffiness and fluid. This three-stage approach is designed to refine shape, reduce inches and improve skin firmness.

A single session is $299. A 5-session package is $1,300 ($260 per session). A 10-session package is $2,300 ($230 per session). Packages are valid for 12 months.

After debating for a few years to book a treatment like abdominal cryotherapy, I am so unbelievably happy that I chose KRIDO and Amber! She is so informational, trustworthy and talented. My results are everything I hoped for & I will absolutely be back for more.

Your Visit at KRIDO

You start with a consultation. The team looks at the areas you want to change, takes measurements and builds your plan. The consultation is included with your first treatment.

Each session follows the same sequence: cryo, red light and lymphatic drainage. The esthetician applies controlled cooling with the CryoSkin device. You feel alternating warmth and cold. Most clients find it comfortable and relaxing. Then you rest under red light panels. The session ends with a manual lymphatic drainage massage, which can temporarily reduce puffiness and fluid.

Measurements are taken at every session so you can see progress in inches, not just how you feel. No downtime. No forced contractions. No tenderness for days.

As studio guidance, the team recommends avoiding sugar and highly processed fats for 2 hours before and 2 hours after your session. Light movement like walking after your session is also encouraged.

KRIDO Wellness is awesome. I’d recommend them for facials, fat reduction/skin tightening for your body or face, and even permanent make up. Kristina, the owner, is absolutely incredible and truly cares so much about KRIDO, her team, and her clients. Both women and men would be happy they checked out KRIDO Wellness in Downtown St Pete.

Where You Are in the Decision

If your goal is to freeze fat in one or two areas and you are comfortable with a longer recovery and a higher cost, CoolSculpting is a well-studied option. Talk to a medical provider who offers it.

If you want to build muscle and see some fat reduction as a side benefit, Emsculpt may suit you. It works best for people already in good shape.

If you want a non-invasive treatment designed to reduce stubborn fat and support skin tightening, costs less per session and has no downtime, Cryo Body Sculpting at KRIDO is a different approach. Results vary and build over several sessions, but the process is simple, tracked and fits into your day.

KRIDO is in downtown St. Petersburg at IMAGE Studios, 11 7th St N, Suite 220. The studio serves St. Petersburg, Gulfport, South Pasadena, Pinellas Park, St Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Seminole and surrounding areas. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 6 PM, by appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is CoolSculpting the same as CryoSkin or Cryo Body Sculpting?

No. CoolSculpting uses suction and sustained freezing over 35 to 60 minutes. CryoSkin alternates warmth and cold in short phases without suction. They are different technologies. CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared; CryoSkin is a cosmetic device with limited research.

Can Emsculpt replace exercise?

No. Emsculpt builds and strengthens muscle through forced contractions, but it does not provide cardiovascular fitness, flexibility or the full-body benefits of regular exercise. It is a supplement, not a replacement.

Does Cryo Body Sculpting build muscle like Emsculpt?

No. Cryo Body Sculpting is designed to reduce stubborn fat and tighten skin. It does not use electromagnetic pulses and does not build muscle. If your goal is muscle definition, talk to a provider about Emsculpt or strength training.

How many sessions of Cryo Body Sculpting will I need?

Most clients see their best results over 5 to 10 sessions. Many notice a visible change after the first session, and results build with each treatment. Your plan is personalized at your consultation.

Is there downtime with Cryo Body Sculpting?

No. You can return to your normal activities right after your session. You may feel alternating warmth and cold during treatment, but most clients find it comfortable and relaxing.
