Dermaplaning with Rosacea: Safe Exfoliation for Sensitive Skin
Dermaplaning may suit some people with rosacea when skin is calm and a trained esthetician does it carefully. The key is matching the treatment to your skin at the moment.
Can You Get Dermaplaning If You Have Rosacea?
Sometimes, but timing matters. Dermaplaning removes dead skin cells and fine vellus hair using a sterile surgical blade held at a precise angle. It is a gentle physical exfoliation. When rosacea is calm, dermaplaning can smooth texture, improve product absorption and leave skin brighter.
When rosacea is flaring (hot, red, swollen, or with visible pustules), dermaplaning is not the right choice. A flare means the skin barrier is compromised and any exfoliation can make inflammation worse.
At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, our estheticians assess your skin at every visit. If your rosacea is active that day, we skip the blade and adjust the treatment to soothe instead.
What Causes Rosacea and Why Exfoliation Needs Care
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. It causes redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes acne-like bumps. Triggers include sun, heat, stress, alcohol, spicy foods and certain skincare products. The exact cause is not fully understood, but genetics, immune response and skin barrier dysfunction all play a role.
People with rosacea often have sensitive skin and a weakened barrier. Harsh exfoliation can trigger a flare. Dermaplaning is gentler than scrubs or some chemical peels, but it still removes the outermost layer of cells. If the barrier is already inflamed, removing that layer can worsen redness and irritation.
That is why assessment before every treatment is essential.

How KRIDO Approaches Dermaplaning for Rosacea-Prone Skin
We use Circadia professional skincare in every facial. Circadia formulas are designed to support the skin barrier and work with your skin’s natural repair cycle. When dermaplaning is appropriate, it is followed by calming, anti-inflammatory products that help the skin recover and stay balanced.
If your skin is flaring the day you come in, your esthetician will recommend a different facial. The Rosacea & Acne Facial, for example, uses gentle enzyme exfoliation, a pre and post biotic mask, and ingredients that calm inflammation and support the skin’s microbiome. No blade, and less risk of aggravating a flare.
Every KRIDO facial also includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Small studies suggest red light may support collagen. Lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce puffiness.
You book a Skin Consultation + Dermaplaning Facial or another facial from the menu. At the consultation, we look at your skin that day, talk about your triggers and goals, and confirm the plan. The consultation is included with the facial you pay for.
What to Expect During a Dermaplaning Facial at KRIDO
Your esthetician cleanses your skin, then uses a sterile surgical blade at a 45-degree angle to gently scrape away dead cells and fine hair. The blade does not cut; it glides. Most people find it relaxing. The hair does not grow back thicker or darker. That is a myth. Shaving or dermaplaning does not change the follicle.
After dermaplaning, a customized Circadia mask is applied. For rosacea-prone skin, this might include calming botanicals, antioxidants and barrier-supporting ingredients. Then red light therapy and lymphatic drainage (to reduce any puffiness).
Your skin may look slightly pink right after, but there is no downtime. Many clients notice smoother texture and a brighter complexion right away.
The Dermaplaning Facial is $150.
I had the absolute best experience at Krido Wellness!! I went in for a dermaplane and from the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. I sat down with the owner, Kristina and she took the time to discuss my current skincare routine, what I’m struggling with and my goals. You could tell she really has such a passion for what she does and after learning more about her story, it was clear that her mission is to help people look and feel their best. The spa itself is very clean, professional, and has a calming atmosphere so you can truly relax. My aesthetician Amber was incredible!! She is so knowledgable and friendly and was so thorough with my treatment. She wasn’t pushing products on me, she just really wanted me to have the best possible experience. I literally couldn’t believe my skin afterward - had to do a double take in the mirror lol it was GLOWING, rejuvenated and felt amazing.

Other Options for Rosacea at KRIDO
If dermaplaning is not right for you that day, or if you want a treatment built specifically for rosacea, the Rosacea & Acne Facial is designed to remove keratin buildup (which can trap bacteria), calm inflammation and rebalance the skin’s microbiome. It uses enzyme exfoliation (gentler than a blade) and a Pre & Post Biotic Nourishing Mask. The treatment is anti-inflammatory, hydrating and soothing. Many clients with rosacea find it soothing.
The Rosacea & Acne Facial is $125. The recommended plan is one to two times a month for correction, then monthly for maintenance.
For ongoing skin health, KRIDO also carries the Circadia retail line. These are the professional-grade products we use in treatment, available to take home or have delivered in 2 to 4 days.
Oh my goodness I cannot say enough good things about Krido, Kristina, and Amber. The studio is beautiful and so relaxing. Amber is incredibly knowledgeable, I was blown always. And I left with no pores! Cannot recommend enough.

Who Should Avoid Dermaplaning
Do not get dermaplaning if:
- Your rosacea is flaring (hot, red, swollen, pustules visible).
- You have active skin infections or open wounds on your face.
- You are on certain medications (your esthetician will review your health history at the consultation).
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding (site-wide contraindication).
Each of our estheticians has 30 years of esthetics experience. They will tell you honestly whether dermaplaning is safe for your skin that day.
Dermaplaning and Rosacea: Key Takeaways
Dermaplaning may suit rosacea-prone skin when it is calm, but it is not right for everyone with rosacea. It smooths texture, removes dead cells and fine hair, and helps skincare products penetrate better. When rosacea is active, a calming facial like the Rosacea & Acne treatment is the better choice.
At KRIDO Wellness, your esthetician assesses your skin at every visit. If dermaplaning is not right that day, we adjust the plan. Every facial includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage, and all products are Circadia professional skincare designed to support the skin barrier and long-term health.
Results vary. What works depends on your skin type, triggers and how consistently you follow a gentle skincare routine at home.

Frequently asked questions
Does dermaplaning make rosacea worse?
It can, especially during a flare. When rosacea is flaring, dermaplaning can worsen inflammation. At KRIDO, your esthetician assesses your skin at every visit and skips the blade if your rosacea is active that day. When your skin is calm, dermaplaning can smooth texture and help products absorb better.
Will the hair on my face grow back thicker after dermaplaning?
No. Dermaplaning and shaving do not change the hair follicle. The fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) grows back at the same thickness and color. This is well established and backed by dermatology sources.
How often can I get dermaplaning if I have rosacea?
It depends on your skin. When the skin is calm, dermaplaning is often spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, and rosacea-prone skin may need longer gaps. Your esthetician at KRIDO will recommend a schedule based on how your skin responds and your goals.
What should I use at home if I have rosacea?
Gentle, barrier-supporting products. KRIDO carries the Circadia professional line we use in treatment. Your esthetician can recommend specific formulas for rosacea-prone skin. Avoid harsh scrubs, alcohol-based toners and known triggers like fragrance or essential oils.
