Nano Brows vs Microblading: Which Is Right for You?

Nano brows and microblading both create natural-looking brows with semi-permanent pigment. Nano brows use a machine, microblading uses a manual blade. The techniques differ in precision, healing and how long results last.

Nano Brows vs Microblading: Understanding the Difference

Nano brows and microblading both give you semi-permanent brows that look like real hair. The main difference is in how the pigment is applied. Microblading uses a manual handheld blade to create fine cuts in the skin and deposit pigment. Nano brows use a digital machine with an ultra-fine needle to implant pigment with hair-like strokes.

Both techniques shape and fill your brows. The choice depends on your skin type, the look you want, and how long you want the results to last.

How Each Technique Works

Microblading cuts small, shallow lines into the skin with a blade-like tool. Pigment is placed into these cuts, creating the appearance of individual hairs. It works best on normal to dry skin. Oily skin can blur the strokes over time.

Nano brows use a machine to create very fine, precise dots or strokes. The needle implants pigment just below the skin surface. The machine allows more control, so the artist can adjust pressure and depth for different skin types. Nano brows tend to heal more crisply and last longer than microblading.

Both procedures need a touch-up session after the first appointment. Microblading may fade faster on oily skin, requiring more frequent refreshes. Nano brows hold their shape and color longer across skin types.

What Happens During a Visit at KRIDO

At KRIDO Wellness, permanent makeup starts with a consultation. Amber, our permanent makeup expert, looks at your natural brows, skin and face shape. She maps your ideal brow shape on your skin so you see the design before any pigment is used. You choose the technique together: nano brows, powder ombré, or combo brows.

The final quote is confirmed at the consultation. Most clients need one main session and one touch-up five to six weeks later. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. The treated area may appear slightly darker in the first few days, which is normal. As your skin heals over 7 to 14 days, the color softens and settles into its true shade.

Avoid picking, sweating heavily, or getting the area wet during healing for the best results.

KRIDO Brow Options and Pricing

KRIDO offers three permanent brow techniques:

  • Nano Brows ($697): Ultra-fine hair strokes created with a digital machine. Crisp, natural, and long-lasting.
  • Powder / Ombré ($497): Soft, shaded brows with a makeup-filled look. No individual strokes.
  • Combo ($597): Hair strokes at the front, shading through the body and tail. Blends both techniques.

The price is based on the technique and the number of sessions you need. In some cases a neutralization is needed first, so one or more extra touch-up sessions may be required. Amber confirms your session plan and final quote at the consultation.

Clients must be 18 years or older. A $100 deposit is required and applied to your treatment.

I had a consultation at Krido Wellness and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Kristina, the owner, sat down with me beforehand to really talk through what I was looking for. She was so kind, thoughtful, and clearly knows her craft. I felt completely comfortable and confident walking out of there. I’m already booked to come back at the end of the month for permanent makeup and couldn’t be more excited. Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone who genuinely listens and cares about getting it right.

5/5 Stars. KRIDO Wellness is awesome. I’d recommend them for facials, fat reduction/skin tightening for your body or face, and even permanent make up. Kristina, the owner, is absolutely incredible and truly cares so much about KRIDO, her team, and her clients. Both women and men would be happy they checked out KRIDO Wellness in Downtown St Pete.

Results typically last 1 to 3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Annual refreshers help maintain vibrancy over time. Individual results vary.

Which Technique Is Right for You?

Microblading suits normal to dry skin and clients who want a very natural, hair-stroke look. If your skin is oily or combination, nano brows hold better and last longer. Nano brows also give you more flexibility across skin types and give Amber finer control over stroke placement.

If you prefer a soft, filled-in look rather than individual hairs, powder ombré may be the best choice. Combo brows blend strokes and shading for dimension and fullness.

Amber assesses your skin, features and goals at the consultation, then maps your ideal brow shape so you see the plan before any pigment is used. You leave with a clear quote and session plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does nano brows hurt more than microblading?

Most clients experience minimal discomfort with either technique. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure. Sensitivity varies by person, but the majority describe the sensation as light pressure or a mild scratching feeling.

How long do nano brows last compared to microblading?

Nano brows typically last 2 to 3 years. Microblading lasts 1 to 2 years, especially on oily skin where strokes may blur sooner. Results vary depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Annual refreshers maintain vibrancy.

Can I get nano brows if I have oily skin?

Yes. Nano brows are often the best choice for oily or combination skin. The machine allows precise control, so the strokes stay crisp and heal more evenly than microblading cuts, which can blur on oily skin.

Do I need a touch-up after nano brows or microblading?

Yes. Most clients need one main session and one touch-up, usually scheduled 5 to 6 weeks after the initial appointment. The touch-up perfects the shape, fills in any areas where pigment did not fully retain, and ensures you are completely happy with the result.

How do I prepare for a nano brows or microblading appointment?

Avoid alcohol, blood thinners like aspirin or fish oil, and excessive sun exposure for at least 48 hours before your appointment. Come with a clean face and bring a reference photo if you have one. Your artist will walk you through everything during the consultation.
