What Happens During a Lash Lift & Tint

A lash lift curls your natural lashes from the base, creating a lifted and lengthened look. A lash tint darkens the lashes for added definition. Together, they enhance your natural lashes without the need for extensions. The appointment takes about an hour, and many clients leave with lashes that look wide awake without a drop of mascara.

At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, Amber Polacek performs lash lift and tint services. Each of our estheticians has 30 years of esthetics experience. Here’s what happens step by step.

Step 1: Consultation and Prep

Your session starts with a consultation. Amber looks at your natural lash length, curl pattern, and what you want. She explains what’s realistic for your lashes and answers any questions.

You lie back comfortably with your eyes closed. Amber cleanses your lashes to remove any makeup, oil or residue. Clean lashes help the lifting solution work properly. She then applies under-eye gel pads to protect your lower lids and keep you comfortable.

Step 2: Applying the Silicone Shield

Amber places a silicone shield (also called a rod or pad) along your upper lash line. The size of the shield determines how dramatic the curl will be. She brushes your natural lashes up and back over the shield, securing each lash so it sits smoothly. This step sets the shape your lashes will hold.

Step 3: The Lifting Solution

The lifting solution is applied to your lashes. This is similar to a perm solution. It breaks down the bonds in each lash so they can be reshaped. The solution sits for a set amount of time, depending on your lash thickness and texture. You relax with your eyes closed while it works.

Step 4: The Setting Solution

After the lifting solution is removed, Amber applies a setting solution. This locks in the new curl by rebuilding the bonds in your lashes. Again, it sits for a few minutes, then is gently removed.

Step 5: The Tint

If you’re adding a tint, Amber applies lash tint to darken your lashes. The tint sits for a few minutes, then is carefully wiped away. This step gives your lashes more definition, especially at the tips, so they look fuller and more awake.

Step 6: Nourishing and Removing the Shield

Amber applies a nourishing serum or conditioner to your lashes to hydrate them after the chemical process. She then gently removes the silicone shield and cleanses away any remaining product. You open your eyes to see the lift.

What It Feels Like

The process is gentle and designed for comfort. You lie back with your eyes closed the entire time. Most clients find it relaxing. There is no pain. If you have sensitive eyes, let Amber know at the start.

How Long It Lasts

Results typically last 6 to 8 weeks, depending on your natural lash growth cycle and aftercare. As new lashes grow in, they will be straight, so the lifted look gradually softens. You can repeat the treatment every 6 to 8 weeks.

Who It’s For

A lash lift and tint is ideal if you want more defined lashes without extensions or daily mascara. It suits anyone who prefers a low-maintenance routine and a natural look. You must be 18 or older.

If you have very short or sparse lashes, a lift may not create a dramatic change. Amber will assess your lashes at the consultation and let you know what to expect.

Aftercare

After your session, avoid water, steam, oil-based products and mascara on your lashes for 24 hours. This gives the curl time to fully set. After that, you can wear mascara if you like, though most clients find they don’t need it.

Ask Amber whether a lash conditioner suits you between lifts. Avoid rubbing your eyes, and be gentle when removing eye makeup.
