Dermaplaning and Chemical Peel: What Works, What to Combine

Dermaplaning and chemical peels both exfoliate, but they work differently and suit different goals. Here’s how to choose, and how KRIDO uses dermaplaning in facials.

Dermaplaning and Chemical Peel: How They Compare

Dermaplaning removes dead skin cells and fine vellus hair with a blade. Chemical peels use acid solutions to dissolve and shed skin layers. Both exfoliate, but the method, depth and results are different.

Dermaplaning gives you immediate smoothness and glow, with zero downtime. Chemical peels penetrate deeper and can address tone, texture and pigmentation over time, but they often require recovery and may cause peeling or redness for days.

You can combine them, but timing matters. Many people do dermaplaning first to remove surface buildup, then a chemical peel a week or two later so the acid can reach fresh skin. Never do both on the same day without professional guidance. Your skin needs time between treatments to heal and rebuild.

What Dermaplaning Does

Dermaplaning is a gentle physical exfoliation. A sterile blade glides across your skin at a precise angle, shaving away the top layer of dead cells and fine hair.

Your skin looks and feels smoother right away. Makeup goes on more evenly, and many people find skincare sinks in more easily. The fine hair (peach fuzz) does not grow back thicker or darker; that is a myth. Shaving does not change the follicle.

Results are temporary. Your skin naturally sheds and renews, so most people return every four to six weeks to maintain the effect.

What Chemical Peels Do

Chemical peels apply an acid (glycolic, salicylic, lactic or a blend) to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells. The top layers shed over days, revealing fresher skin underneath.

Peels come in light, medium and deep strengths. Light peels may brighten and smooth with little downtime. Medium and deep peels go further, improving pigmentation, fine lines and scars, but recovery takes longer and peeling can be visible.

Results build over a series of peels, and you need to protect your skin from the sun afterward. For medical-grade peels or deeper resurfacing, talk to a medical provider.

Can You Do Dermaplaning and a Chemical Peel Together?

Yes, but not at the same time. Dermaplaning first removes the barrier of dead cells, which can make a peel more effective, but it also makes your skin more sensitive. Many professionals suggest waiting one to two weeks between treatments.

Some clinics layer a very light peel after dermaplaning in the same session. That can be done safely by a trained professional using the right peel strength. Do not try it at home.

If you are doing both, tell your esthetician or dermatologist what you have scheduled. They will adjust the peel strength and timing to keep your skin safe.

How KRIDO Wellness Uses Dermaplaning

At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, dermaplaning is offered as part of a Circadia facial. Every treatment includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage.

The Dermaplaning Facial is $150. Your esthetician removes dead skin and peach fuzz, then uses Circadia products chosen for your skin. Research suggests red light may support collagen, and lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce puffiness.

We do not offer chemical peels. If you want a peel, you will need to see a dermatologist or medical spa. Dermaplaning is a standalone option here, and it pairs well with our other facials if you want deeper hydration, peptides or treatment for rosacea or acne.

What to Expect at Your Visit

You start with a consultation. We read your skin, talk about your goals and what you have tried before, then choose the facial that fits. Your visit is a consultation plus the facial.

The Dermaplaning Facial takes about 90 minutes. There is no downtime, and many clients leave with smooth, glowing skin. We generally recommend a facial every four to six weeks.

If you are working on specific concerns like pigmentation or texture, your esthetician may recommend a different facial or a combination over time. KRIDO facials use Circadia professional skincare, a line designed to support your skin’s natural repair cycle.

I had the absolute best experience at Krido Wellness!! I went in for a dermaplane and from the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. I sat down with the owner, Kristina and she took the time to discuss my current skincare routine, what I’m struggling with and my goals. You could tell she really has such a passion for what she does and after learning more about her story, it was clear that her mission is to help people look and feel their best. The spa itself is very clean, professional, and has a calming atmosphere so you can truly relax. My aesthetician Amber was incredible!! She is so knowledgable and friendly and was so thorough with my treatment. She wasn’t pushing products on me, she just really wanted me to have the best possible experience. I literally couldn’t believe my skin afterward - had to do a double take in the mirror lol it was GLOWING, rejuvenated and felt amazing.

Frequently asked questions

Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?

No. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair at the surface. Shaving does not change the follicle, so hair grows back at the same thickness and color. This is a common myth with no scientific basis.

Can I do a chemical peel and dermaplaning in the same week?

Many professionals suggest waiting one to two weeks between treatments. Dermaplaning removes the protective layer of dead cells, which makes your skin more sensitive to acids. Spacing them helps protect your skin.

Does KRIDO Wellness offer chemical peels?

No. We offer dermaplaning as part of a Circadia facial, along with red light therapy and lymphatic drainage. For chemical peels, you will need to see a dermatologist or medical spa.

How often should I get dermaplaning?

We generally recommend a facial every four to six weeks, which aligns with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Your esthetician will recommend a schedule based on your skin type and goals.

Is dermaplaning safe for sensitive skin?

Dermaplaning is gentle and works for most skin types. If you have active acne, open wounds or very irritated skin, it may not be suitable. We review your skin history at the consultation and adjust the plan as needed.
