How to Fix Loose Skin After Weight Loss
Loose skin after weight loss comes from the skin stretching over time and losing elasticity. Your options range from strength training and patience to non-invasive treatments and surgery.
What causes loose skin after weight loss?
Loose skin after weight loss happens when skin that stretched to accommodate a larger body does not snap back fully. The collagen and elastin fibers in your skin lose elasticity over time, especially with significant or rapid weight loss. Age, genetics, how long you carried the weight, and sun damage all affect how much your skin bounces back.
Rapid weight loss, including on GLP-1 medications like semaglutide, can reduce fat volume quickly, which can make skin look looser or older, especially in the face. The medication itself does not damage skin. The change comes from fast volume loss.
Your honest options
Here are the paths people take, from least to most invasive.
Give it time
Skin may keep adjusting for months after weight loss. Younger skin with less sun damage tends to bounce back better. If your weight loss was recent, patience helps.
Build muscle
Strength training adds volume under the skin, which can fill out some of the looseness and create a firmer shape. Exercise tones the muscle underneath. It does not burn fat from one spot (research mostly shows spot reduction does not work), but it can improve the overall look of an area.
Stay hydrated and protect your skin
Drink enough water and use sunscreen. Sun-damaged skin has less elasticity. This will not fix existing loose skin, but it helps prevent further damage.
Non-invasive skin tightening
Treatments like radiofrequency, ultrasound and cold-based sculpting use energy or temperature changes on the skin. Some may help with mild to moderate skin laxity, and evidence varies by device. Results are gradual, not dramatic, and you need multiple sessions. They work best when the looseness is not severe.
Surgery
For significant loose skin, a body lift, tummy tuck, brachioplasty (arm lift) or thigh lift removes excess skin surgically. This is the only option that removes large amounts of skin. It involves incisions, scars, recovery time and cost. Talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon.

How KRIDO Wellness can help
KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg offers Cryo Body Sculpting, a non-invasive treatment that uses controlled cooling, red light therapy and manual lymphatic drainage to reduce stubborn fat and help tighten skin. It is designed for mild to moderate skin laxity in areas like the abdomen, arms, thighs, flanks and underarms.
Each session lasts about an hour. The treatment starts with measurements, so your progress is tracked in inches. The esthetician applies controlled cooling to the area, then red light therapy (research suggests red light may support collagen), then lymphatic drainage massage, which can temporarily reduce puffiness and fluid.
Many clients notice tighter, firmer skin over a course of 5 to 10 sessions. On average, clients see a reduction of 0.5 to 1 inch in the first session. Results vary. This is body sculpting, not weight loss. It refines shape and skin quality in targeted areas.
Cryo Body Sculpting does not work like surgery. It will not remove large amounts of loose skin. It is an option for clients who want to avoid downtime and surgery, and who have stubborn fat and mild skin laxity that exercise has not changed.
Each of our estheticians has 30 years of esthetics experience. Sessions cost $299 each, or you can buy a 5-pack for $1,300 or a 10-pack for $2,300.
After debating for a few years to book a treatment like abdominal cryotherapy, I am so unbelievably happy that I chose KRIDO and Amber! She is so informational, trustworthy and talented. My results are everything I hoped for & I will absolutely be back for more.

Frequently asked questions
Can you tighten loose skin without surgery?
With mild to moderate skin laxity, many clients notice firmer skin over a course of Cryo Body Sculpting sessions, which combine controlled cooling and red light. Results vary. For significant loose skin, surgery is the only option that removes excess skin.
How many Cryo Body Sculpting sessions does it take to see results?
Many clients notice a visible change after the first session. Most clients see their best results over a course of 5 to 10 sessions. Your plan will be personalized at your consultation based on the areas you want to treat.
Does Cryo Body Sculpting hurt?
No. You will feel alternating warmth and cooling during the treatment. Most clients find it comfortable and relaxing. There is no pain and no downtime afterward.
What is the difference between loose skin and stubborn fat?
Loose skin is excess skin that does not snap back after weight loss. Stubborn fat is pinchable fat in areas that do not respond well to diet or exercise. Cryo Body Sculpting is designed to help with both, reducing stubborn fat and firming skin in the treated area. Results vary.
Can I build muscle to fix loose skin?
Strength training can add volume under the skin and create a firmer shape, which helps fill out some of the looseness. It does not tighten the skin itself, but it can improve the overall look of an area by toning the muscle underneath.
