Microneedling for Eye Bags: What It Can and Can’t Do

Microneedling improves skin texture and tone, but true under-eye bags are usually caused by fat or fluid, not skin quality. Here’s what works and what to consider.

Can Microneedling Help with Eye Bags?

Microneedling is often asked about for under-eye bags, but the honest answer is: it depends what’s causing the puffiness. Microneedling can improve skin texture, fine lines and discoloration around the eyes. But if your under-eye bags are from fat pads or fluid retention, microneedling won’t change them.

Under-eye puffiness has different causes, and the treatment depends on the cause.

What Causes Eye Bags

True under-eye bags are usually caused by three things:

Fat pads. As we age, the tissue that holds fat in place under the eye weakens. The fat moves forward and creates a bulge. This is structural, not a skin problem.

Fluid retention. Puffiness from fluid happens when the body holds water under the eyes. It’s often worse in the morning and can be triggered by salt, alcohol, allergies, or lack of sleep.

Thin, crepey skin. The skin under the eye is naturally thin. As collagen decreases with age, it can look loose or wrinkled. This is where microneedling may help.

For the first two causes, fat pads and fluid, microneedling won’t make a visible difference. Fat pads are typically addressed with surgery (lower blepharoplasty). Fluid-related puffiness may ease temporarily with lymphatic drainage, and with better sleep, hydration and less salt.

What Microneedling Does for Under-Eye Skin

Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing response and stimulates collagen production over time.

Systematic reviews of randomized trials support microneedling for acne scars, with moderate evidence for fine lines and texture. It usually takes several sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, to see improvement.

If your concern is thin, crepey skin or fine lines, microneedling around the eye area may help. The skin can look smoother and firmer after a series of treatments. But microneedling does not reduce fat or fluid.

How KRIDO Approaches Under-Eye Concerns

KRIDO Wellness offers microneedling as part of our facial menu. We also offer facials designed to improve skin health, texture and brightness.

Every facial includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Research suggests red light may support collagen production. Lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce fluid-related puffiness.

If your under-eye area looks puffy from fluid, the lymphatic drainage step may help. If the concern is skin texture or fine lines, microneedling or our anti-aging facial may be a better fit.

What to Expect at a Consultation

We start every facial with a skin consultation. Your esthetician will look at your skin, your concerns and what you want to change. Then we recommend the facial that makes the most sense.

Every visit starts with a consultation where we look at your goals and build your plan. You pay for the facial you choose.

Microneedling is $300. Over a series of treatments, many clients notice smoother, more even-looking skin. Results vary and build with a series of treatments.

Our anti-aging facial is $125 and includes exfoliation, peptides, hydration and antioxidants. It’s designed for fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and dry or dehydrated skin. Monthly facials are recommended.

Other Options for Under-Eye Bags

If the puffiness is from fat pads or loose skin, talk to a medical provider about surgical options. Lower blepharoplasty removes or repositions fat and tightens skin.

If you think it’s fluid, simple steps often help: more sleep, less salt, staying hydrated, elevating your head when you sleep. If seasonal allergies are a trigger, talk to your doctor.

Fillers placed by a medical provider can sometimes soften the appearance of under-eye hollows or shadows. But fillers do not reduce bags, and placement near the eye carries risks. Talk to an experienced injector.

Real Client Results

I had the absolute best experience at Krido Wellness!! I went in for a dermaplane and from the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with open arms. I sat down with the owner, Kristina and she took the time to discuss my current skincare routine, what I’m struggling with and my goals. You could tell she really has such a passion for what she does and after learning more about her story, it was clear that her mission is to help people look and feel their best. The spa itself is very clean, professional, and has a calming atmosphere so you can truly relax. My aesthetician Amber was incredible!! She is so knowledgable and friendly and was so thorough with my treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Does microneedling get rid of under-eye bags?

Microneedling can improve skin texture and fine lines, but it does not reduce fat pads or fluid under the eyes. If your bags are from fat or fluid retention, microneedling won’t change them. For thin, crepey skin or fine lines, microneedling may help over a series of sessions.

How many microneedling sessions does it take to see results around the eyes?

Results build over time. Most clients need several sessions spaced a few weeks apart. The exact number depends on your skin and your goals. Your esthetician will recommend a plan at your consultation.

Can lymphatic drainage reduce under-eye puffiness?

Lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce puffiness caused by fluid retention. It encourages drainage and circulation. Every KRIDO facial includes lymphatic drainage massage. For puffiness from fat pads, lymphatic drainage won’t help, and you may need to talk to a medical provider about surgical options.

Is microneedling safe near the eyes?

Microneedling can be performed around the eye area when done by a trained professional. The team at KRIDO has 30 years of esthetics experience. We assess your skin and health history at the consultation to confirm the treatment is right for you.

What causes under-eye bags to get worse?

Common triggers include lack of sleep, high salt intake, alcohol, allergies, dehydration and aging. As we age, the tissue holding fat under the eye weakens, and collagen in the skin decreases. Fluid retention can make puffiness worse temporarily.
