What to Expect After Microneedling: Healing, Results & Aftercare

Microneedling triggers collagen production through controlled micro-injury. The days and weeks after your session are when the real work happens beneath the surface.

What Happens to Your Skin Right After Microneedling

Microneedling triggers collagen production through controlled micro-injury. The days and weeks after your session are when the real work happens beneath the surface. Your skin will look and feel different immediately after treatment, and knowing what to expect helps you care for it properly while it heals.

Right after microneedling, your skin will be red and may feel warm or tight, similar to a moderate sunburn. This is normal. The redness typically peaks within the first few hours and begins to fade within 24 to 48 hours for most people. Some areas, especially thinner skin around the eyes or cheeks, may stay pink a bit longer.

You may also notice mild swelling, small pinpoint bleeding or tiny scabs, and some dryness or flaking in the first few days. These are all part of the healing process. Your skin is repairing itself, and that repair response is what microneedling relies on.

The First 24 to 48 Hours: What to Do and What to Avoid

The first two days after microneedling are the most sensitive. Your skin barrier has been intentionally disrupted, so it needs gentle care and protection.

Keep your skin clean. Your esthetician will give you specific instructions, but in general, avoid touching your face with your hands. Do not apply makeup for at least 24 hours, and some providers recommend waiting 48 hours. Use only the gentle, approved products your provider recommends. At KRIDO Wellness, you’ll leave your Microneedling Facial with clear aftercare guidance.

Avoid sun exposure. Your skin is more vulnerable to UV damage right after treatment. Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 48 hours, and use a mineral-based sunscreen once your provider says it’s safe to apply.

Skip exercise, hot showers, saunas and anything that makes you sweat heavily for the first 24 to 48 hours. Heat and sweat can irritate healing skin and increase the risk of inflammation or infection.

Do not use retinoids, acids, exfoliants or active skincare ingredients for at least a week after treatment, or as directed by your esthetician. Your skin needs time to heal before you reintroduce stronger products.

Healing Timeline: What to Expect Week by Week

Most visible side effects resolve within three to seven days, but the deeper healing and collagen remodeling continue for weeks.

Days 1 to 3: Redness, warmth, tightness, possible swelling. Skin may feel dry or look slightly rough.

Days 4 to 7: Redness fades. Skin may flake or peel lightly as the surface layer renews. This is normal and should not be picked or scrubbed.

Weeks 2 to 4: Surface healing is complete. Skin may start to look smoother and more even. Collagen production is ramping up beneath the surface.

Weeks 4 to 12: Many people notice gradual improvement in texture and tone as new collagen matures. Results continue to build over this time.

Systematic reviews support microneedling for atrophic acne scars, and evidence is moderate for fine lines, texture and stretch marks. Most studies show that it usually takes several sessions spaced weeks apart for best results.

When You’ll See Results

You may notice some glow and smoother texture within a week or two as your skin heals and renews its surface. But the deeper results, the ones that come from new collagen and elastin, take longer.

Many people notice improvement in skin texture and tone around four to six weeks after a session. Results continue to build for up to three months as collagen remodels.

At KRIDO Wellness, the Microneedling Facial is designed to target fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture and discoloration. With a series of treatments, many clients notice smoother, firmer, more even-looking skin with improved tone and radiance.

Aftercare Tips for the Best Results

How you care for your skin after microneedling affects both how quickly you heal and how well your results develop.

Keep it simple. Use only gentle, hydrating products for the first week. Avoid anything with fragrance, alcohol or active ingredients.

Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.

Protect from the sun. UV exposure can cause hyperpigmentation on healing skin. Wear a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen every day once your provider clears you to use it, and avoid direct sun for at least a week.

Do not pick, scratch or scrub. Let any flaking or peeling happen naturally. Picking can cause scarring or uneven healing.

Follow your provider’s instructions exactly. Every practice has its own protocol based on the depth of treatment and the products used. At KRIDO Wellness, you’ll receive personalized aftercare guidance at your appointment.

What KRIDO Wellness Microneedling Looks Like

At KRIDO Wellness in downtown St. Petersburg, every Microneedling Facial includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. Research suggests red light may support collagen, and lymphatic drainage can temporarily reduce puffiness.

The treatment is $300. You start with a consultation to assess your skin, discuss your goals and confirm that microneedling is the right approach for you. Then your esthetician performs the treatment. Microneedling is ideal for targeting fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven texture and discoloration. With a series of treatments, results continue to build over time.

Oh my goodness I cannot say enough good things about Krido, Kristina, and Amber. The studio is beautiful and so relaxing. Amber is incredibly knowledgeable, I was blown always. And I left with no pores! Cannot recommend enough.

Can You Combine Microneedling with Other Treatments?

Microneedling is often combined with other treatments, but timing matters. Do not schedule other face treatments, chemical peels or laser work immediately before or after microneedling without checking with your provider. Your skin needs time to heal between treatments.

At KRIDO Wellness, every facial includes red light therapy and lymphatic drainage massage. If you’re interested in combining treatments or building a skincare plan that includes microneedling, bring it up at your consultation. The team will help you map out a safe, effective schedule.

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling works well for many people, but it is not for everyone. It may not be suitable if you have active acne, open wounds, active skin infections, certain skin conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your health history will be reviewed at your consultation.

You must be at least 18 years old to book a treatment at KRIDO Wellness. Individual results vary. Photos on the site are of real KRIDO Wellness clients and are not retouched. Results depend on treatment area, number of sessions and individual response.

If you are looking for a results-driven treatment to improve skin texture, tone and the appearance of scars or fine lines, and you are willing to commit to a series of sessions and proper aftercare, microneedling may be a strong option.
