Lash Lift Aftercare: How to Make Your Results Last
A lash lift curls your natural lashes from the base for 6 to 8 weeks. The right aftercare protects your results and keeps lashes healthy through the full cycle.
What happens after a lash lift
A lash lift uses a chemical solution to reshape your natural lashes into a lifted curl. The appointment takes about an hour, and you walk out with curled, defined lashes. For the first 24 to 48 hours, the structure is still setting. What you do during that window affects how long the curl holds.
Proper lash lift aftercare is simple. Most of it comes down to what to avoid in the first two days, then gentle habits for the weeks that follow.
The first 24 to 48 hours: keep them dry
Your lashes need time to lock in the new shape. For the first 24 hours (some technicians say 48), keep your lashes completely dry. That means no water, no steam, no sweating.
Skip:
- Face washing over the eye area
- Showers that spray your face
- Saunas, hot yoga or steam rooms
- Swimming pools, hot tubs or the ocean
- Heavy workouts that make you sweat
Use a damp cloth to clean around your eyes if needed, but keep the lashes themselves untouched. Water exposure too soon can relax the curl before it fully sets.

What to avoid for the full 6 to 8 weeks
Once the first day or two pass, you can return to normal washing. A few habits help your results last:
- No oil-based products near the lashes. Oil can break down the lift. Use water-based or oil-free makeup remover, cleansers and eye creams.
- Skip waterproof mascara. It requires harsh removers that can weaken the lift and dry out your lashes. If you do wear mascara, choose a water-based formula and remove it gently.
- Do not rub your eyes. Friction can bend or break lifted lashes. Pat dry after washing.
- Avoid sleeping face-down. Pressure against a pillow can flatten the curl over time.
- No lash curlers. You do not need them. Using one can damage the lift and your lashes.
How to care for your lashes between lifts
Lifted lashes are still natural lashes. They grow, shed and replace themselves on a cycle. Gentle care helps them hold up through the full 6 to 8 weeks.
- Brush them gently each morning with a clean spoolie to keep the curl neat.
- Consider a lash serum or conditioning treatment (check that it is oil-free). Some clients find it helps lashes feel softer and look healthier.
- Remove all makeup before bed. Sleeping in mascara dries lashes out and can cause breakage.
If a few lashes lose their curl early, that is normal. Lashes shed and regrow at different times, so some will drop out and take the lift with. The majority should hold the curl for 6 to 8 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
How long after a lash lift can I get my lashes wet?
Wait 24 to 48 hours before getting your lashes wet. Water too soon can relax the curl before it fully sets. After that window, you can wash your face and shower normally.
Can I wear mascara after a lash lift?
Yes, after the first 24 to 48 hours. Use a water-based, non-waterproof mascara and remove it gently with an oil-free remover. Waterproof formulas require harsh removers that can weaken the lift.
Why should I avoid oil-based products after a lash lift?
Oil can break down the chemical structure that holds the curl. Use oil-free or water-based cleansers, makeup removers and eye creams to protect your results for the full 6 to 8 weeks.
How often should I get a lash lift?
Most clients return every 6 to 8 weeks. That matches the natural lash growth cycle. You can wait until the lift is fully grown out, or book again when you notice the curl starting to relax.
Can I use a lash serum after a lash lift?
Yes, as long as it is oil-free. Some clients like a conditioning serum to keep lashes feeling soft between lifts. Check the ingredients list before applying anything near the lash line.
