Dermaplaning Aftercare: How to Treat Your Skin After
After dermaplaning, keep skin clean, hydrated and protected from sun, and skip exfoliants, retinoids and heavy sweating for a few days.
Dermaplaning Aftercare in Brief
After dermaplaning, treat your skin gently for a few days. Use a mild cleanser and a simple moisturizer, wear sunscreen every day, and skip exfoliants, retinoids and strong acids for about three days. Avoid heavy sweating, saunas and pools for the first 24 hours. Your skin is smooth and fresh, and a little care helps it stay that way.
Dermaplaning removes the top layer of dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). That is why skin looks brighter right away, and also why it is a bit more sensitive for a few days.
The First 24 Hours
- Keep it simple. Rinse with lukewarm water and a gentle, fragrance free cleanser.
- Moisturize. A plain, hydrating moisturizer helps calm any mild pinkness.
- Hands off. Freshly exfoliated skin picks up bacteria more easily.
- Skip the sweat. Postpone intense workouts, hot yoga, saunas and steam rooms.
- Hold off on makeup if you can. Many estheticians suggest a makeup free evening. If you need it, use clean brushes and a light product.
Mild redness that fades within a few hours is normal.

Days 2 to 3: What to Skip
For about three days, avoid:
- Retinoids, retinol and prescription creams for acne or aging.
- AHAs and BHAs such as glycolic or salicylic acid, and peels.
- Scrubs, brushes and any other exfoliation.
- Waxing or hair removal creams on the face.
Your esthetician may give you a different timeline based on your skin and what was used in your facial.
Sunscreen Is Non Negotiable
Exfoliated skin burns more easily. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen every morning and reapply if you are outdoors. In St. Pete sun this matters year round, not just in summer.
If You Break Out After Dermaplaning
A few small bumps can appear in the days after, especially if you touch your face, work out right away or use heavy products. They usually settle quickly. Our guide to breakouts after dermaplaning covers why it happens and what helps.

Products That Work Well After Dermaplaning
Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs products more easily. That is good news for gentle, hydrating products and a reason to be careful with strong ones. In the first few days, simple is best:
- A mild, fragrance free cleanser.
- A hydrating serum, such as one with hyaluronic acid.
- A plain moisturizer to support the skin barrier.
- A broad spectrum sunscreen every morning.
Once your skin feels completely normal, usually after about three days, you can bring your usual routine back one product at a time.
Does Hair Grow Back Thicker?
No. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair at the surface and does not change the hair follicle. Hair grows back with the same texture and color as before.
How Often to Dermaplane
Most people book dermaplaning every four to six weeks, in line with the skin’s natural renewal cycle. Your esthetician tailors that to your skin at the consultation.
Dermaplaning at KRIDO
The Dermaplaning Facial at KRIDO is $150 and takes about 90 minutes. Each visit starts with a skin consultation, then your facial. See the dermaplaning facial, read the dermaplaning steps, or book a consultation.
